SCULPTURE & CASTINGAll media: clay, wax, stone, plaster, wood, metal. Individual instruction covers methods and tools, with special emphasis on conceptual development. While in drawing and painting you are creating the illusion of dimension, in sculpture you are creating the full dimension. You will apply knowledge learned in drawing class and conversely in drawing class you will apply knowledge learned in sculpture.
This endeavor works hand in hand with creative development. The sculpture classes start with a basic head in clay first structured on a human skull replica to acquaint you with the anatomy of the head. You will then work on your own assigned projects. Intermittently, the class works from the live model doing sketches in clay with great emphasis on learning the dimensionality of human anatomy. CASTINGAs you complete your sculptures in clay, you will learn the techniques of casting.
This exciting process is taught using all methods: waste molds, piece molds and flexible molds. You will also learn about all materials: plaster, rubber, hydrocal and resins. |
