Portfolio Program
The College Portfolio Program prepares students to walk the Artist's Path and to have active lives and careers in the arts. The school and the program are one. The faculty and students co-experience this amazing path that leads towards professional excellence and limitless creativity.
Everyone's experience is unique, but it always begins with an interview with the Director. The Director will have a frank conversation with you to discuss your work and your options for moving forward.
Some students may begin their individual path through the Foundations Program, or our classes in Painting, Life Drawing, or Sculpting and Casting. Some will walk the path first through our special programs like Art in the Round, our intense Summer Program, or the Young Artist's Program.
Students drive their own creativity while being guided in their creative technique by faculty who have walked this path before. They make friends and gain experiences through our Critique classes and student exhibitions. They come to understand the Artists who have come before them in our Art History classes.
The Path of the Portfolio Program leads you to Portfolio Day. HFA arranges for dozens of colleges from around the nation to come and view your work. Their counselors will meet with you to discuss how this amazing path will continue in college. You can read here some of the positive comments that these colleges have made about their participation in Portfolio Day.
Then the Path continues into your professional career. Some students may face their post-academic life with uncertainty, but as an HFA graduate you have been aware of career paths all along. You can read about some of the exciting career paths available to you as an Artist here.
And still the Path continues onward. Somewhere along the way, you have taken control of your own creativity and study and directions. This is what your teachers at HFA have hoped for you all along. You have become your own counselor. Hopefully, you may also teach that which you have been taught. And the path begins again.
This is everything you need to know about the Portfolio Program…
Are you ready to begin?
